The Space

It’s essential to measure everything very well, because most of the time the plans don’t correspond to reality. In small, old buildings, there is almost no chance of there being a wall at the corner. At the same time, check the location of beams and pillars, plumbing, the electrical system and ventilation points.

The Challenge

Although it may not seem like it at first glance, designing a 10m² house is a much more complex challenge than designing a conventional 1 or 2 bedroom apartment. It’s like they say: wanting to put Rossio (big square) in Betesga (very small street)”. At first, it seems impossible to fit everything in. Then, little by little, with lots of looks, inputs, doodles and discussions, you find the magic formula where everything fits perfectly.

The Solution

Given the studio’s limited size, the main priority was to optimise its functionality and versatility. The space must be completely redesigned, integrating all the elements efficiently, functionally and comfortably, including the mezzanine and stairs, maximising the use of vertical space. It is important to integrate storage solutions with design, ensuring practicality without compromising on aesthetics.

The value

Designing a micro space implies a very well thought out and executed interior design. A design that, contrary to popular belief, involves many hours of planning and researching solutions. By taking inspiration from boat design and utilising multifunctional solutions, intelligent storage and efficient lighting, it is possible to create compact spaces that are comfortable, functional and aesthetically pleasing. With attention to detail and a creative approach, any ultra-compact space can become a little haven where everything is close at hand.
