Located in the historic centre of Évora, this former family home was transformed into a distinctive boutique hospitality concept following an 18-month renovation led by Architect Miguel Lima. More than a refurbishment, this was a repositioning strategy: converting a residential property into a high-value hospitality asset with strong identity and premium market appeal. The vision was clear — create the most distinctive guesthouse in the region while honouring its heritage and elevating its commercial potential. The Challenge The brief extended beyond aesthetics. The objective was to: Differentiate in a competitive boutique hospitality market Increase perceived value and pricing power Build a memorable brand narrative rooted in heritage Design interiors capable of sustaining long-term operational performance Initially conceived with a light palette, the project evolved as we identified that true differentiation required boldness. The decision to introduce deep midnight blues, layered velvets and brass detailing was strategic — darker, immersive spaces elevate perceived exclusivity and create a strong digital footprint across booking platforms. Convincing stakeholders required persistence and vision alignment. But bold positioning often defines market leaders. The Work / Moodboard Inspired by the world of pharmacy — ingredients, rare substances, glassware, annotations and scientific artefacts — we developed a layered, immersive interior concept. Key design drivers included: Deep colour blocking to enhance character and intimacy Velvet upholstery and lacquered black finishes to reinforce elegance Brass and mirrored accents to elevate sophistication Curated heritage objects (antique microscopes, mortar and pestles, annotated books, test tubes) to create narrative depth Signature moments were intentionally designed to enhance brand memorability: Suspended lighting installations in the entrance hall A vertical garden in the courtyard Golden koi fish suspended across the lounge bar ceiling Every visual element was conceived to strengthen storytelling, social media performance and guest recall. This was not decoration. It was experiential brand construction. The Value / The Results Valeriana Exclusive Guesthouse emerged as a fully positioned boutique hospitality brand — not merely an accommodation unit. Strategic outcomes included: Clear brand differentiation within the Évora market Elevated perceived value allowing premium pricing Strong visual identity enhancing OTA conversion rates Increased experiential positioning beyond room revenue (gastronomy experiences, rooftop sunset moments) Creation of a hospitality product with emotional and commercial resilience By transforming heritage into narrative capital, the property gained both emotional depth and financial leverage. Valeriana proves that design, when strategically aligned with brand positioning, is not a cost — it is an asset multiplier. Client Testimonial: “Working with Staging Factory was truly rewarding.
